The story of our family

The Sweet Crown family together at a celebration

Every dream has a beginning and ours began in Mashhad, Iran, with a young boy named Amo Hossein and the scent of saffron in his family home. As a child, Amo Hossein stood beside his mother as she managed their small grocery store by day and carefully unshelled pistachios and sorted saffron threads by night. He learned early that dignity comes from hard work and that quality is a responsibility, not a choice. At thirteen, he stepped into the kitchen of the renowned Tousi Confectionery and discovered that baking was not only labour, but art. Over time, he rose to lead the entire confectionery, carrying with him the lessons of discipline, honour, and care.

Years later, together with Khale Ziba, whose strength and wisdom anchored the family, Amo Hossein made the brave decision to migrate to Australia in search of a secure future for their son. The early years were filled with sacrifice. Factory shifts replaced ovens. Construction work replaced pastry trays. Yet the passion for baking never left his heart. Mr Emad Darafsheh stood beside his father during that time. He witnessed the preparation, the excitement, and the long nights. He saw how deeply his father believed in the craft. That first official store was more than a business. It was proof that perseverance carries meaning. But when betrayal came years later, it struck deeply. In 2017, as trust was broken and Amo Hossein walked away empty handed, Mr Emad Darafsheh had already begun his degree in the medical science field. He was building his own future. Yet he could not watch his father’s dream be buried and forgotten.

When the family stood at the edge of financial collapse, Mr Emad Darafsheh made a bold and painful choice. He deferred his university studies. He chose uncertainty over comfort. He offered his father another restart. It was not simply a business decision. It was a son protecting a lifetime of effort. Father and son rebuilt together. They carried debt, but they also carried faith. By 2020 they were slowly recovering when the COVID pandemic forced Melbourne into long lockdowns. Their doors closed for months. Rent remained. Income stopped. They shut down their industrial kitchen and transformed their home into a commercial grade space. The ovens burned in their house, and hope burned in their hearts. Years of effort, resilience, and refusal to surrender slowly began to bear fruit. What began once again in a home kitchen grew stronger than ever imagined. The dream that once seemed fragile now stood on a stronger foundation than before.

In late 2023, Mr Emad Darafsheh secured the lease of the very location where Amo Hossein had once opened his first official patisserie in Australia. This time, it was not a partnership built on fragile trust. It was a family legacy built on experience, wisdom, and unity. Walking back into that space was not simply reopening a shop. It was reclaiming a promise that had once been broken, and restoring it with strength.

In 2024, Sweet Crown moved into a dedicated warehouse facility, marking a powerful new chapter in the journey. It was no longer simply survival. It was growth rooted in resilience. Production expanded with confidence. The team grew with purpose. Systems strengthened with experience. What once depended on only a few determined hands now moved forward through many skilled and loyal ones who shared the same values. Sweet Crown began to flourish in a way that made every sacrifice meaningful. Skilled pastry chefs joined with pride. Dedicated staff carried the values of quality and respect into every interaction with customers. Demand increased steadily, not through shortcuts, but through consistency and care.

Today, there are more than ten households connected to this family. More than ten homes where tables are warmed by the work of its hardworking members. More than ten homes where children are raised with dignity, where food is served with gratitude, and where futures are supported not only financially, but emotionally and spiritually. The once small family operation has become a stable and respected organisation guided by one unwavering principle.

“Excellence is not negotiable”

Sweet Crown is more than a patisserie. It is the visible proof that sacrifice guided by integrity becomes honour. It is a mother’s patience, a father’s craftsmanship, a wife’s strength, and a son’s loyalty. As new members continue to join this growing family, we hope that the love, passion, and support we share with one another will grow stronger year after year.

“I keep coming back to this Persian pastry shop, and honestly, it’s not just because of the amazing quality (which is consistently excellent). The people who work here, along with the owner, are what truly make the difference. Their customer service is genuinely warm, welcoming, and memorable.
